Christianity is most definitely a religion. It fits every part of this definition.
The reason I think that some Christians reject the idea of it being a “religion” is because, to some people, that’s all that it is. However, Christianity is so much more than just a religion.
You hear people say, “Christianity isn’t a religion… it’s a relationship.” I believe that people say this is because, sometimes, people swing far right and make Christianity solely a religion. However, swinging far left and saying that it’s not a religion, but a relationship, is just as ignorant as the first action.
Christianity is both a religion and a relationship. That’s why it’s different than any other religion in the world. The Gospel transforms, transcends, and liberates us… while just religion demands, oppresses, and binds us.
The Christian faith is a religion. But it’s not religion that will save you… it’s the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
